Company Class & Company Sharing of The Box (short) - 11th & 14th June @ Dance Base

The Box (short)

Julia James-Griffiths

During her residency at Dance Base, Julia will be continuing the development and production of a short work of The Box, alongside two dancers. The intention behind creating this short work is to enable The Box to be taken to more platforms, as well as unconventional spaces, that don't cater for full-length works or productions.

The Box is a dance theatre piece that explores the impact depression can have on an individual, and how our society responds to it. Through movement, and the playful use of text / spoken word and the physical elements found and used for depression / mental health issues, the work explores the idea of confinement, in its various forms, and what can be produced from it.

The Box Project also involves delivering free movement workshops titled Mind To Move, for those with experience of mental health issues (no dance experience necessary). Please contact her for more information or to book a place: julia@jjgdance.com

Company Class | Tuesday 11 June | 10.00 – 11.30

Julia's class is release-based, and involves moving in and out of the floor. The class explores the connections and movement possibilities of the body as whole, and how to move in a more efficient way; through spirals and the use of weight and suspension.

Company Showing | Friday 14 June | 16.00

Supported by Creative Scotland and The Work Room
